Today, I took the time to rejuvenate my old canvas rucksack by re-waxing it with Otter Wax. Here’s a brief overview of the process I followed, which not only revitalized the bag but also provided a perfect excuse to relax by the woodstove.
Preparation: First, I thoroughly cleaned the rucksack to remove any dirt or grime. This step is essential, as it ensures that the wax adheres properly.
Warming Up: To facilitate the waxing process, I warmed the wax by placing it near the woodstove. This made it more pliable and easier to apply.
First Coat: I applied a thin, even layer of Otter Wax all over the rucksack using my fingers, working it into the fabric. The warmth from the woodstove helped the wax penetrate the fibers effectively.
Letting it Set: After applying the first coat, I allowed it to set for a short while, then warmed it again near the woodstove. This step helps activate the wax and ensures a better seal.
Second Coat: I repeated the process with a second thin coat of wax, ensuring complete coverage. The rucksack began to look revitalized after this step.
Final Touches: Once both coats were applied and set, I was thrilled to see how beautifully the rucksack turned out. The color deepened, and the water resistance was restored.
This re-waxing process not only extends the life of your canvas gear but also allows you to enjoy the comfort of a cozy setting while doing it. I’m delighted with the results and can’t wait to take my rucksack on new adventures!
